Kittredge Village (CU)

University of Colorado - Boulder, CO

New amenities and outdoor gathering places enhance residential village on CU campus.

Kittredge Village on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus, built in the 1960s, lacked desired amenities and social environments that are integral for student interaction and learning. In response, the University retained a design/build team to replace the existing complex with a residential village that integrates academic classrooms with community and living areas. Wenk Associates created a micro-master plan for the village that stresses connectivity between interior spaces and the adjacent outdoor spaces. The results are new campus areas that includes a village green, a pedestrian lane lined with retail uses, an amphitheater courtyard, and an activity lawn oriented to spectacular views of the adjacent Flatirons. The plan also creates new circulation routes through the village that include walkways designed to safely integrate pedestrians and cyclists.
