In November 2017, Denver voters passed the Green Roof Initiative over the objections of some in the development community. Since then city leaders and a Task Force have been busy making recommendations to implement the initiative, which affects the construction and replacement of all roofs of 25,000 square-feet+. The ULI Colorado’s Explorer series event – Denver’s Green Roof Initiative: What does it mean for your business? provided the opportunity to learn about best practices for implementation along with a national case study from the Javits Center in New York City. The panel discussed green roof regulations, logistics, benefits, alternatives, and financing.
Wenk Associates’ Principal, Greg Dorolek was invited to speak at the event about the benefits of having a landscape architect's involvement during green roof design and construction, and Senior Landscape Architect, J.C. Culwell led a tour of the green roof at the FLIGHT building at TAXI (shown above) which was recently completed last Spring.
Since 2000, Wenk Associates has completed 15+ successful green roof projects throughout Colorado, including REI’s Flagship store, One Cherry Center, Fort Lewis College’s Student Union, the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences rooftop terrace, and Lakewood’s Civic Center Plaza.
