Design meets rigorous sustainability goals in final phase of 82-acre Community Park

Parkfield Lake Park is an 82-acre park located in a culturally diverse, yet park-poor neighborhood in Denver.   Wenk Associates was awarded the third phase of design to complete master plan refinement, design and construction documents, and construction observation for multiple ball fields, a regional playground, splash play area, court sports facilities, dog park, and several multi-functional gathering spaces including an overlook and amphitheater at the edge of Parkfield Lake.

As part of a strategy to meet rigorous sustainability goals, the design reduces irrigated turf grass, and incorporates a surface stormwater system to support native plantings in natural buffers.  Plant materials irrigated with recycled water were selected because of their limited maintenance requirements and low water use. Artificial turf football and soccer fields reduce irrigated turf areas and maintenance requirements while providing a high-quality playfield year-round.
