The Post District Mixed-Use Development
Salt Lake City, UT
The Post District encompasses almost an entire block in downtown Salt Lake City of what used to be an industrial site with a scattering of buildings. The district is now a vibrant urban gem providing a mix of work, live, and play.
Wenk Associates is serving as the project landscape architect on a multidisciplinary team to design a pedestrian-focused plaza street through the Post District neighborhood while honoring its industrial heritage. The redevelopment will provide new housing, office, and retail options for this burgeoning community. Given the adjacency to the heavily trafficked vehicular corridors of 500 South and 600 South, the design focus for the block was to turn inward and celebrate the existing Gale Street. The plaza features flexible spaces and a variety of amenities for the adjacent residences (over 500 units) and retail and office visitors city-wide. The curbless roadway seamlessly integrates into the plaza when the street is closed to be used for special events. The project includes a public art plan; materials, furnishings, and lighting plans; and an integrated green infrastructure strategy.
